Two out of three drunk Driving arrests in California result in misdemeanor charges. While a misdemeanor is better than a felony, don’t make the mistake of thinking that a misdemeanor DUI isn’t serious. A drunk driving conviction can land you in jail. Even a first conviction can result in expensive sanctions. You may be required to install an expensive interlock device in your car. You could also be required to take expensive driver retraining courses. Your insurance costs will rise. You could have your driving privileges suspended, and you could be required to pay expensive fines.

Many people arrested for impaired driving think that they can represent themselves in court. While you are legally entitled to represent yourself, it’s rarely a good idea to do that. You could not only deprive yourself of professional representation and counsel, but your end result could be worse.
