Arsene Wenger has revealed ten Arsenal stars are set to be out of contract in 18 months' time as he insisted no player was bigger than the club.
Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil have attracted the headlines with the clock ticking down on their deals, which both expire in June 2018.
But the Gunners effectively have another eight players – including Olivier Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – with deals set to run out around the same date.
Santi Cazorla and Per Mertesacker are under contract until the end of this season, but Arsenal have options on both for a further 12 months – and Wenger have revealed midfielder Cazorla will definitely get a new deal.
“That explains to you why we have a lot of work to do, but you are only interested in two cases,” Wenger told reporters.“There are six or seven cases at the moment, but that is the usual case — it is every year like that."We have started talking to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and we start as well, and will extend certainly, with Santi Cazorla.”
The other players out of contract in 2018 are Mathieu Debuchy, Kieran Gibbs and the currently on-loan pair of Jack Wilshere and Wojciech Szczesny.
