Don’t be misled by its size. Moffatt may only be a Town with 120 residents on the edge of Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve in southern Colorado’s San Luis Valley, but it is making waves in the legal cannabis growing industry.

Five years ago, Mike Biggio and his business partner set up Area 420, a collective of 70 grow operations in the town, making it the highest concentration of cannabis growers in Colorado. With aspirations to make the area the equivalent of Napa Valley for the bud, Biggio feels that the current moniker of the town is, well, a bit naff.

He has proposed that the town changes its name to reflect the future of the region. His proposal is that it be renamed Kush, and the process to convince enough of the residents to make the change is underway, a process which, it seems to me, requires a period of calm, deep inner contemplation.

Just hope they don’t bogie that joint.
