Mr. Francis Emile Short, a former Commissioner on Human Rights and Administrative Justice disclosed that the corruption rate is immensely high in Ghana that churches are also involved in such activities. He said the pastors, preacher hence everyone is promoting this evil deed.
He added that the church is a place where people purify their souls. Its place where “Christian leaders lead and guide their congregants to desist from corruption-related practices.” But unfortunately, the situation is the opposite.
Further, Francis Emile Short added that it’s the right time to demand money trail from the pastors and preachers. The sources should be opened, he demanded. He said the act of corruption needs to stop immediately otherwise Ghana will suffer.
“The clergy is not speaking enough against corruption, adding that they must talk about corruption to encourage them [congregants] not to engage in corruption and not just to ask them to donate money to the church no matter how the money had been acquired. It is unfortunate that in recent surveys that have been conducted, the church has also been implicated in acts of corruption and even traditional rulers have also been implicated, especially in the area of illegal mining.”
