KNUST Halls Case Discard By Court

A Kumasi High Court two has struck out a case of ban application, which seeking to hold back the management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to change two male halls of residence of the University into a diverse one.

Graduates of the Unity and University Halls had required an injunction application in opposition to the conversion of the halls.

Both Continental and Katanga halls have been protesting the decision by management to switch the halls.

There were so many police at the building of the court today on Friday, August 24, 2018.

Both alumni and ongoing students from both halls had massed up at the court building to observe the case.

The court presided over by Justice Samuel Obeng Diawuo explains the applications came after the University had owed place to students who had admissions.

The Judge also explained that giving way the request by the plaintiffs will reason problem for new students who had before now secured accommodation at the University.

Lead counsel of the Katanga Hall, Lawyer Stephen Asante Bekoe addressing journalists after the ruling disagreed with court’s explanations as reasons for quashing the case.

He hints they will Supreme Court for a appropriate explanation of the issue.

The Students Representatives Council of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) had previously petitioned the office of the president, Nana Akufo-Addo influence him to interfere in the existing stalemate over the conversion of halls into mixed at the school.
