A brutal attack on a South African Mosque where worshipers were preparing to pray ended on the death of two people.
According to PC Henry Durant, the attacker armed with a big rambo knife. He hit the mosque as people gathered in Malmesbury Mosque, north of Cape Town. Both victims stabbed to death at about 03:00 local time (01:00 GMT) this morning.
He further explained that “The suspect just got up and started stabbing the people”. According to PC Durant, the attacker, “was not in a hurry – he was very calm”.
He was a foreign national in his 30s. But, he refused to hand over his weapon when police arrived on the scene, police spokesman Lt Col André Traut said.
“[He] charged at the police who tried to persuade him to hand himself over. Also, he ignored the calls and tried to attack police,” Lt Col Traut further added. The attacker shot and killed in the process.
A statement from South Africa’s Muslim Judicial Council said it, “shocked to its core to learn of a brutal attack”.
He explained that the two victims were observing I’tikaaf when killed.
