The outstanding Spoken Word artist, Oswald, who also attended 7 Great Princes Academy, the same basic school the late “Sponsor” hitmaker, Ebony, attended has composed an elegy for the celebrated fallen dancehall hero.

Shatta Wale and Asamoah Gyan, the Black Stars Captain are included in the list who also attended the 7 Great Princes Academy.

On behalf of the old students of school, Oswald, composed the poem expressing the shock and shatter Ebony’s untimely demise brought for both the old and current students. The poem also recounted Ebony’s demise as a huge loss to the school, her family and the nation as a whole.

Background of demise

Ebony was twenty years old who died in a gruesome road accident on Thursday night around 11:30 p.m. at Nyame Bekyere near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South District of the Ashanti Region after a head-on collision with a VIP bus.

Two other people were with her in the Jeep while travelling one her friend, Franky Kuri and a soldier spotted as Francis Atsu Vondee also passed away.

The stunning artiste was heading back from Sunyani where she visited her mum who had arrived in Ghana from the United Kingdom.

Below is the poem:

EBONY’S ELEGY

With heart of grief
We breathe out pains in this sorrowful night
O’ Father of life, if only this grief can be brief…

With heart, so soured,
We gather again to sing; sing dirges & elegies
For a ruptured future
We hoped to see put this earth on her knees in her praise—

Ebony,

The Diva
Of sweet decibels who survived the test of lips (at tender age)
Crossed the billows
But only to wither in her blossom when the earth gathers to applaud her

Ebony,
She came,
She met it &
She conquered it!

But now,
We look into the portrait of the future
And all we see of her
Is today—an enacted funeral for a fallen young ‘sirius’…

Alas,

With heart of grief
We breathe out pains in this sorrowful night…
& with heart, so soured,
We gather again to sing; we sing not her sweet songs—we sing dirges & elegies;

We mourn Ebony,
The Dark Brown Timber, who withered
That night before
The early sun’s light of Afia’s day.

*Afia’s day—Friday (as called in the Akan language)
