Many building damaged while people trapped inside after a Powerful Earthquake of 6.4 magnitudes hit the Taiwanese city of Hualien.
The tremors jolt the area at around 23:50 (15:50 GMT) about 20km (12 miles) off the island’s east coast, the United States Geological Survey informed. It brought extensive damage to roads and high-rise building infrastructure.
According to reports, rescue teams are working to release people who trapped inside a partially collapsed hotel.
In a statement from presidency “The president has asked the cabinet and related ministries to immediately launch the ‘disaster mechanism’ and to work at the fastest rate on disaster relief work”.
At-least 85 people hurt in the strong earthquake that followed by a series of low magnitude tremors. People in the capital felt the shivering of earth, more than 160km (100 miles) away.
Amy Chen, an eyewitness expressed that: “I have never experienced an earthquake as large as this one. I am terrified.”
She further said, ”The bookshelves in my home toppled and flower vases fell and broke. There are scattered glasses everywhere.”
Moreover, Taiwan Island located near a junction of two tectonic plates. The country also frequently hit by earthquakes.
Two years ago on same day, an earthquake also happened of 6.4 magnitude and killed 116 people. Furthermore, the island’s worst tremor in modern history was a 7.6-magnitude tremor in September 1999 that took 2,400 people lives.
