At-least 14 people killed after gunmen stormed a nightclub in north-east Brazil on Saturday. Two minors were also among the dead while several others shifted to hospital including a teenage boy.
According to reports, three cars of attackers swooped in on the venue in the outskirts of Fortaleza during early hours of Saturday morning.
The shooting broke out at 1:30 am at the Forro do Gago nightclub in Fortaleza’s Cajazeiras neighborhood. Police said that gunmen stormed into a party and shot dead a large number of the people
Local media said that the clash between members of two rival Drug Trafficking Gangs triggered the incident. However, most of victims were innocent party-goers with no connections to planned crime.
Twelve people lost their lives at the scene while two others marked dead later in hospital.
The Ceara state security secretary, Andre Costa also confirmed the losses at the Forro do Gago club.
“There is no reason for panic and fear,” Mr Costa said.“It is a one-off event, as occurs all over the world, with 50 or 60 death”.
Last year saw 50% rises in such incidents as 5,114 murders reported in Ceara. It can also consider the highest toll since 2013.
Moreover, Ceara’s deadliest mass shooting on record recorded in 2015 wherein 11 people mostly teenagers, killed.
