Philippines: Dozens feared dead in Davao mall fire

A devastating Fire has ravaged a shopping mall in Davao, Philippine. As a result, around 37 people feared trapped and lost their lives.

The inferno at  City Mall in the Philippines has remain for over a day. The desperate fire crews has struggle hard to contain the blaze . However, one victim has already died and recovered.

Earlier, six people rescued from smoking furnace and shifted  to hospital. According to a spokeswoman, Romina Marasigan “the fire hasn’t totally been put out”.

Police Officer, Ralph Canoy told that the housing of fabrics and wooden furniture caused the blaze to quickly spread.

He also said that, “The fire started on the third floor, which houses products like fabrics, wooden furniture and plastic ware, so the fire quickly spread and it’s taking a long time to put out.”

The Davao Food Guide said, “McDonald’s side, fronting SNR (a Philippines store) still has ongoing fire. You can only see the window but on the inside, the fire is big.”

“On the side fronting Mcarthur highway where there’s an SSI (a Philippines franchise) side beside KFC, there are dozens of rescue vehicles parked. They are trying to rescue the remaining people inside and on standby should there be survivors.”

The region’s vice-mayor, Paolo Duterte said that fire protection commander declared the chances of survival for the 36 people as zero.

Vice-mayor Paolo Duterte is son of president Rodrigo Duterte. He and his daughter, Sara Duterte also visited the scene on Saturday.The cause of the fire is still not clear.

Moreover, Firefighters struggled for hours to extinguish the blaze which started on the third floor and spread to above floor. The blazes also trapped the employees of a call centre.

Davao situated about 800km (500 miles) south-east of Philippine capital Manila.
