Illegal miners activity called ‘galamsey’ is increasing day by day. To counter the activities, government has deployed 400 police with military personnel in area.
Over the years, Ghana has had bad consequences due to galamsey. Thus, government took this step to manage the poor situation. In country, water bodies have destroyed while arable land worn-out. Environment degraded is also among other deadly effects.
The security personnel will heavily equipped with weapons. They will start patrolling mining areas from July 31, 2017. Director, Public Relations of Ghana Armed Forces, Col. Eric Aggrey-Quarshie has confirmed on Wednesday.
