Islamabad is the Capital city of Pakistan. It is located in the northwest of the country on Potohar plateau. The site of its location has a significant historical value. Traces of one of the oldest civilizations of world “the Indus valley civilization” were found at the site of this city.
The Aryans race migrated from central Asia and settled near the current Islamabad city. Gandhara civilization emerged and became the cradle for Buddhism.
Islamabad is located in the foot of Margalla hills, with an elevation of 1770 feet above the sea level. That’s why it has a moderate climate in most part of the year.
Islamabad has many tourist attraction destinations:
Faisal mosque:Faisal mosque in Islamabad is the largest mosque of the South Asia and fourth largest in the world. It lies in the center of city surrounded by the beautiful Margalla hills, gives a spectacular site in the evening.
Lake View Park: It is located near Rawal dam, a beautiful place to be in the cool evening.
Murree hills: If you want to penetrate further into the Margalla hills,Murree hills provide ideal spots and residents for tourists. At an altitude of 7500 ft. just 30 miles from Islamabad it’s a place must visit.
Taxila:Taxila a very important historical city of Pakistan lies just 25 miles from the capital Islamabad. Here you will find the excavation sites of Gandhara art,the remnants of world’s oldest university and oldest civilization with planned towns.
Rawalpindi is city adjacent to Islamabad and is the third largest city of Pakistan.
Here you find castles and forts build by different rulers of subcontinent in different times.
Islamabad is also home to two of the top 100 universities of Asia
The Quaid e Azam University and NUST.
Pakistan television headquarters, Pakistan monument, the recreational park Shakar parian are also places worth visiting.
Islamabad is the only Planned Capital city of the world. It was built in 1967, and capital was shifted from Karachi to Islamabad.
