Vice President of the IMANI, Kofi Bentil has expressed that crime rates in African countries will not increase receiving immigrants if the government will implement free visa policies that allow people to move free in the African continent.
He responded to the critics who are against the free Visa Policy because according them that will increase the criminality in African countries by foreigners; however, Mr. Bentil refuted negative comments.
Speaking with the radio host, Este Sikanku on World Affairs program, he said, ‘Migration, trade or movement within the continent are never threat to the citizenry. We have estimated that crime rate will not increase by implementing this policy.’
He explained that ‘If we speak about the criminals moving around freely and there is no restriction on them then this is because our borders are porous and guards at the borders are not loyal, they just need money. In this way, when you have a criminal purpose or want to carry stash products or need to accomplish something you don’t need anybody, all you need is sufficient money to pay and you will do whatever you want to do.’
As per him, the people who are simple and genuine are being harassed nowadays and traders who have not enough money to pay as a bribe.
