“Barbarian”(2022): Was it worth the Wait?

I intended to see the horror Flick “Barbarian” in a theater. You know what they say about the best-laid plans…

So it was with ample anticipation that I awaited the streaming release. October 25^th, wait over.

Okay. It’s not that I didn’t dig “Barbarian”. I did. 

For the most part.

First, the good parts.

Writer/Director Zach Cregger has composed a multi-plotted, multi-themed and sickly sordid tale here.

For the most part.

Co-stars GeorginaCampbell, Bill Skarsgård and Justin Long are collectively quite good in representing their respective key roles. Campbell is at once vulnerable and a veritable badass. Skarsgård is at turns both super sketchy and super sweet. And Long brings the depth with his interpretation of a self-absorbed, self-loathing TV sitcom star. I really like Long. This squalid soul he summons here, however,is far from admirable. 

So acting-wise, it’s aces across the board.

Foooorthe most part.

Here now, those parts found lacking. And there are a few.

This is solid rock, man! What’s the story on no backstory, Zach? Can ya deal a dudeat least a crumb of aclue, big guy?!

It simply doesn’t seem logistically likely for the bodies to have wound up in this arrangement. Hey, I get dramatic license and all. Still, in this considerably curious case, it’s license suspended.

Finally, why the persistent and puzzling predilection to probe by these poor people. It can’t help but call to mind another scare-fest, one that satisfies a skoshmore on the common sense meter.

GET OUT!!!

Be all of this as it may, and all in all, in the final assessment I emerged both relatively entertained, and sufficiently eeked-out to boot, by “Barbarian”.
