What is the need of Forest Complex?

The department at Forest Complex supports farmers to take up agro forestry on their farm lands by providing technical guidance for plantation of tree species of economic importance. The awareness among farmers is needed about the quality of the variants. The department does the work, it cautions the farmers against plantation of bogus variants of tree species which are easily available in market. It also supplies saplings from the forest nurseries at affordable rates to the common people and farmers. The personnel of the forest complex are specially trained in Joint Forest Management for enhancing their attitude which will help them to work better. Due to this the local stakeholders get a share of the forest produce in return for participating in forest protection and development. All these steps help in improving the ecological and economic condition of the people living in rural areas.

The department also introduces beneficial rules for farmers which helps them in many ways. According to Punjab Apportionment of Tree Rules 2000, the benefit has been devised for the farmers who own their cultivable lands which join the road strip forests. These type of rules benefits farmers with reasonable proportion of revenue of the trees of road strip forests in lieu of the responsibility rendered by the farmer by the way of protection of those trees from illegal felling or theft or fire.

Apart from this the Forest Complex Department protects and conserves the wildlife & forest. The department takes necessary steps to increase forest productivity, check soil erosion in hilly areas and improves ground water recharge.
