Historical Gurudwara Nada Sahib

Gurudwara (Sikh Temple) Nada Sahib is located on the banks of the Ghaggar river in Panchkula district of Haryana state. Nada Sahib is a famous historical place of the sikhs. In 1948, the  holy shrine was under the Dharmarth Board of Patiala and East Punjab States Union. Then Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) took over the shrine and constructed a Gurudwara over that place.

History Behind Nada Sahib

It has been said that in the battle of Bhangani the tenth guru of Sikhs Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji did not conquer the territory of defeated hill chiefs. The battle ended due to the Guruji’s understanding with Bhim Chand and did not result in any territorial conquer. The reason predicted behind this was that Guruji was not after any territorial gains just like his great grandfather Sri Guru Hargobind Ji used to do after winning the battles against Mughals. After winning the battle of Bhangani against the Raja’s of Baaidharr the Sikh army escaped away from the battlefield. With his army, horses riders and followers he started his journey towards Nada Sahib.

Guru Gobind Singh ji stayed at this place while travelling from Gurudwara Baoli Poanta Sahib to Anandpur Sahib with his army. During Guruji’s stay with a man Nadu Shah Lubana family member of Baba Makhan Shah Lubana of the adjoining village served food and milk to him and his army. Impressed from his service (Seva) Guruji blessed him and said that due to his service the place would be known as Nada Sahib and people’s wishes will be fulfilled here.

The Gurudwara has been built on a high mountain. There are mountains along the road leading to this historical place. Monkeys have surrounded those mountains. Feeding them is totally prohibited in that area. At the entrance there is a temporary market from where you can buy religious stuff, utensils and clothes. The main complex of the historical Gurudwara sahib has been separated by a spacious brick paved courtyard. It also consists of Guru ka Langar (Community Kitchen), Jora Ghar, Nishan Sahib and rooms for the pilgrims. The main complex from the inside is beautifully designed with colorful art pieces. The interior designing of the complex is worth watching. Puranmasi day is celebrated every month on this place with great devotion.

Nada Sahib Gurudwara Chandigarh is a worth visiting religious place for mental relaxation. Also enjoy the mouth watering Langar!
