Pet Sounds is probably The Beach Boys' most well known record. It was inspired by Rubber Soul and Revolver by The Beatles, and helped to inspire Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in return. But it almost wasn't a Beach Boys record at all. Brian Wilson considered releasing it as a solo album, and even released the single Caroline No under his own name. However his labl, Capitol Records, didn't want to release it at all. This upset him to the point that when he went in for one meeting at the label, he refused to actually speak at all. Instead he had a tape recorder with him, with several pre-recorded answers including yes, no, and no comment. He would play back the appropriate response instead of actually answering their questions in person.
