Original Superhero Party Decor

Superheroes (and supervillains) are everywhere these days. Without any exaggeration, there are way more Superhero films being spawned each year than there has ever been and judging by the publicly available studio schedules, the production tempo is not going to drop anytime soon. So, needless to say – superheroes will be a conversation piece for years to come. Regardless of what you prefer, DC or Marvel, Batman or Ironman, Wonder Woman or the Black Widow, both camps are totally able to offer a DIY decor for a superhero party to remember!

It’s Still Fresh

In case you think this has all been done already, just remember that it’s not only about comic book cut-outs or framed large-scale posters. Stylisation and iconography are the keywords here, and these are just tiny parts of a huge mountain of opportunities. Pixel art, 8-bit depictions of the “Team Avengers”, pin-up-type wall art, your favourite superheroes as little rugrats – the possibilities are practically endless. Oh, and we forgot to include the original, vintage-heavy Suicide Squad!

Icons

Well, all of them are icons in their own right, but the trademark by which the general public recognises its heroes usually is the logo they bear on their chest. And, not surprisingly, these can be a great source for a series of poppy wall art! Just take a look:

You can either go with this terrific DIY superhero decor project from Allthingsthrifty.com or you can draw the whole thing by yourself. This will add an adorable pinch of naivety, will be less time-consuming and might be something to do together with your kids. Keeping up with the idea of superhero party, you might make a bunch of them, so that everyone could pick their favourite!

Pixels

Simplicity is a gorgeous thing, and pixel art proves the point.  It’s a technique that can be carried out on Microsoft Paint. However, it can also be created with colour chips, simply applied as an effect on numerous image editing apps, or drawn on graph paper with a set of colour pencils. If you’re really enthusiastic about this style, you could even create your favourite hero in Minecraft. What’s not to love?

Besides, pixel art does not necessarily mean thousands of colour blocks and an excruciating DIY superhero decor experience. Recognisable figures (superhero logos and facial masks) can be created with a couple of hundred pixels and sometimes even fewer than that. If there’s superhero part incoming, this would be a great creative activity!

Vintage and Pin-Up Aesthetic

Now these are quite adorable and they have never really gone out of fashion, even more so if the superhero party is intended for adults! But how can one achieve a design feat like this?

Well, it turns out you can get a good ol’ Marvel or DC comic book from the 1960s for a surprisingly low price (be aware, though, the same does not apply to vintage superhero posters, which are considerably more expensive). In fact, you might even find prices as low as $7.99 for the Detective Comics Batman series. The visual material it contains will be enough for a multiple-canvas piece of superhero wall art. A real postmodernist treat.

Superhero Minimalism

Famous film poster re-workings, reducing the original to the most basic of elements or simply transporting well-known heroes to seemingly inappropriate visual environments (Look at the X-Men in the German Expressionist garnish), have been something of a trend for the last couple of years. Superhero films are no exception, and it’s pretty much guaranteed that some of the fan-made poster art will outrival the original version.

Although V for Vendetta is not exactly a superhero film per se (it is a comic book adaption, though), this YouTube tutorial does a great job of showing us the basic principles for setting up the obligatory minimalist vibe.

Suicide Squad in Your Superclock

A YouTube video by the DIY hacker Homemadegameguru demonstrates just how easily a seemingly sophisticated design element like a custom-made clock can be created. Ingredients and requirements? A bit of knowledge in the Adobe Photoshop environment, a clock (one that’s easy to dismantle), a printer and scissors. Just follow as the man creates and at the end of the day, present your little ones with the greatest clock ever invented! You can also adjust the figure to the shape of your current clock to turn it into a complete no-budget affair.

Wall Decals

Unsurprisingly, superhero wall decals are also enjoying a wave of appreciation from both young and old. A Spidey, crawling up the wall near the window, a Superman smashing bricks with his kryptonite-hard fist, or the Dark Knight casting a gloomy look at the Bat-Signal from the other side of the room, all of these scenes are easily achievable with a simple, large-format wall sticker. As a more mature option, silhouette decals might come in handy to add a tasteful comic value to an otherwise overly-sophisticated interior.

All that’s left is to decide which Superheroes you want to be a part of your or your kid’s life for the next couple of years. “Justice League” is no more beyond the Horizon, but neither are “Avengers: Infinity War”!
