Festive Lunch at M&S Café Singapore

M&S Café Singapore, the table service cafe of Marks & Spencer at Wheelock Place, offers an interesting menu of items ranging from tempting pastries, sandwiches and salads to hot meals like fish & chips, potato jackets and pasta. It has introduced new items to its menu recently. During the holiday season it is a nice place to enjoy some festive food.

M&S Café Singapore

We had lunch at M&S Café Singapore when it first opened (see our earlier post – M&S Cafe – New Marks & Spencer Cafe in Wheelock Place). We liked its bright and airy space and friendly down-to-earth service. When we visited the cafe again recently, we did not notice any significant change except for the new menu items.

M&S Café New Menu Items

The M&S Café Menu had been updated although the items offered remained basically the same as those in the menu at the time of cafe’s opening. However, we noticed that the prices of some items had been revised upwards. For example, Macaroni Pasta was $10.90 previously but was $11.90 in the menu presented to us on our latest visit. New dishes, like Wood Fired Lobster & Prawn Pizza, Poached Egg Benedict with Smoked Salmon and Prawn Mayo Baguette, have been introduced. Below are photos of random sections of the current M&S Café Menu.

Besides regular meals, brunch and afternoon tea, M&S Café also has Happy Hour from 5 pm to 7.30 pm.

Festive Lunch at M&S Café

There was a Festive Meal at $18.40 where we could get a sandwich with soup & bread. We ordered a Festive Meal opting for Tuna & Sweetcorn Sandwich and Vegetable Soup. We also ordered the Cod Fish Cake ($9.90), a cup of Americano ($4.50) and the Mince Pie & Tea Set ($9.90).

The food and drinks were served very promptly. The vegetable soup came with a piece of pita bread. Both the soup and bread were nice and tasty.

The Tuna & Sweetcorn Sandwich was served with a helping of salad. The dish was average – nice enough but not remarkable.

The cod fish cakes were quite enjoyable. The batter was light and delicate. The fish had a nice fresh taste.

Good Mince Pie

The Mince Pie was a sweet treat. The pastry was rich and buttery and had a nice crusty texture. The filling of sultanas and grapes was moist and very sweet. It was very enjoyable with sips of tea in between bites. We liked it so much that immediately after the meal, we went into Marks & Spencer Food Hall to look for the mince pie.

We had a simple festive meal at M&S Café which was good and satisfying. It was like a nice home-cooked meal – after all, almost everything we had for lunch could be bought from the Food Hall of Marks & Spencer and served at home – but we had good friendly service in pleasant surroundings. The price for the meal was reasonable. We think M&S Café Singapore is not a bad place to head to if we want a simple meal in between shopping in Orchard Road.
