Veuve Clicquot Celebrates 250th Anniversary with Colourful “Solaire”

Since its inception, Veuve Clicquot has espoused a bright solaire philosophy, and the famous Champagne Maison is commemorating its 250th anniversary with a salute to joy and optimism. Madame Clicquot’s daring, inventive energy, and societal dedication have driven Veuve Clicquot to push the frontiers of champagne for the past 250 years. Every day, the House continues to fulfill that promise with passion and excellence. Making Veuve Clicquot champagne has always been a creative endeavour, requiring special knowledge rooted in a passion for Pinot Noir and the maturing process. Veuve Clicquot is guided by the House’s long-standing slogan, “just one quality, the best,” from harvest to shipment. Legacy of Excellence and Joy in Champagne Madame Clicquot, the “Grande Dame of Champagne,” was the inspiration for this ode. Following her husband’s death in 1805, she took over the House at the age of 27 and distinguished herself through her bravery, innovation, and genuine optimism. Even in the face of adversity, she maintained her optimism, stating, “What to do in the face of such a horrible twist of fate?” We must be patient and wait till the good season arrives so that we can exact our vengeance!” Veuve Clicquot is continuing to build on its legacy by producing, innovating, and surrounding itself with bold and free-thinking individuals. A look at the Veuve Clicquot Collection YELLOW LABEL BRUT Yellow Label is the symbol of Veuve Clicquot’s quality and flair, and it’s replicated every year with the help of our valuable reserve wine collection. The champagne’s vibrant personality and superb winemaking credentials are reflected in the label’s dazzling yellow colour. Grapes from as many as 50 to 60 different Crus go to the blending of Yellow Label.  The long aging in their Crayères (3 years minimum for Yellow Label) gives silkiness to the Champagne. EXTRA BRUT EXTRA OLD Extra Brut Extra Old is a cuvée collection crafted from a unique blend of prestigious old reserve wines. In 2013, Cellar Master created a one-of-a-kind blend made entirely of reserve wines to express the essence of Yellow Label while paying homage to Madame Clicquot and her innovative and visionary process. As a result, the Extra Brut Extra Old cuvée, a truly unique champagne, was born. In 2019, the House introduces the collection’s second blend, Extra Brut Extra Old 2, a new blend that reflects the House’s historical expertise. ROSÉ Madame Clicquot created the first known blended Rosé Champagne in 1818, which you can enjoy and share today for its lively flavour and burst of fruits. Made using 50 to 60 different crus, the cuvee is based on Brut Yellow Label’s traditional blend, 44 to 48 % Pinot Noir, 13 to 18 % Meunier, 25 to 29 % Chardonnay. The coppery champagne, the burst of red fruit aromas…the blend is an essential element, a creative act, to achieve it. The Cellar Master and his team of experts select high-quality red and still wines from some of Champagne’s most prestigious vineyards to find the flavours and characteristics that perfectly express the Veuve Clicquot Rosé style. DEMI SEC With its equilibrium that tends towards sweet and fruit flavors, Veuve Clicquot Demi-Sec is an indulgent treat for champagne lovers – and perfectly suited for dessert. Demi-Sec, like all Veuve Clicquot blends, is primarily composed of Pinot Noir (40-45 percent), which provides the champagne with its fundamental structure. The pursuit of very distinct fruit flavours necessitates a higher level of Meunier (30-35 percent) in the blend than would typically be found in Yellow Label, and Chardonnay rounds out the blend (20-25 percent ). The inclusion of 30-45 percent reserve wines ensures that the Veuve Clicquot style remains consistent. RICH Become a mixologist, also known as a ‘Clicquologist!’ and express yourself with Rich, the first Champagne designed specifically to be mixed with ice and a fresh ingredient. In the history of Champagne, wines that were blended for greater sweetness were customarily described as « Rich ». The Rich blend is made up of 45 percent Pinot Noir, the mainstay of Veuve Clicquot’s winemaking and the foundation of the champagne’s structure. The Meunier (40%) contributes roundness to the blend, and Chardonnay (15%) rounds it out with extra freshness. The blend for Rich Rosé is completed with 15% Pinot Noir red wine. Rich’s distinctiveness stems from its dosage of 60 g/L, which enhances the aromas of the blend. As Veuve Clicquot’s Cellar Master shares, “Sugar in champagne is like spices in a recipe: used correctly it can bring out specific aromas and play with flavors. LA GRANDE DAME La Grande Dame pays homage to Madame Clicquot as well as the creative and elegant souls who have followed in her footsteps. A wine that embodies the image of the Grande Dame herself. Madame Clicquot chose and acquired exceptional grand cru parcels with exceptional grapes using her determination, intuition, and vision. Madame Clicquot believed that Pinot Noir had the most expressive range and potential to produce the best champagne. Pinot Noir necessitates the highest level of expertise from the Cellar Master and the winemaking team. Pinot Noir is delicate, and it presents a challenge to those who work in the vineyard. The Pinot Noir grape expresses itself differently depending on the terroir, exposure, and harvest conditions of the year. La Grande Dame 2012 is a wine that is both precise and delicate. It is playful, lively, laughing. This new vintage offers a strong minerality carried by Pinot Noir balanced with the freshness of the blend. Its aging potential is immense, it is a wine whose tasting makes me vibrate– Didier Mariotti, Veuve Clicquot Cellar Master
