Paul Fretwell, Head of George Ide LLP’s Personal Injury team, has just secured a seven figure compensation settlement for a motorcyclist who suffered an above knee amputation in a road collision. This was a challenging case on liability, with the other driver’s insurance company denying liability throughout. The insurer alleged our client was riding recklessly by overtaking in excess of the speed limit and close to a junction. Paul Fretwell always felt that so long as our client was not “riding like a bat out of Hell” he was ‘there to be seen’, and felt that liability should be established. There was always going to be a significant reduction for contributory fault. Expert collision reconstruction evidence was of vital importance in the case, and proved that the Police’s findings as to speed were very wrong. Paul is delighted that justice has been done. Our client has an award of compensation, and we have ensured that award will be safeguarded by preparing a personal injury trust.
