Auburn Tigers headed to Sugar Bowl

Is it true “A spoonful of Sugar helps the medicine go down”? We will find out as after an odd season of ups and downs, and a somewhat bitter tasting end in the last two games of the season, a spoonful of sugar is now in the mouths of the No.14 Auburn Tigers who have been invited to the Sugar Bowl to play the Big XII Champion, Oklahoma Sooners, ranked at No.7.  The game is set for Jan. 2 at 7:30CT inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

This will be the second time the Sooners and the Tigers have met at the Sugar Bowl. In 1972, Pat Sullivan led his Tigers on the field to meet the Sooners.  Oklahoma came away with a 40-22 victory and the Sugar Bowl trophy, Pat Sullivan came away with the Heisman trophy.

When I hear Oklahoma Sooners, my mind goes back to 2004 when the No.3 undefeated Auburn Tigers were denied a shot to play in the National Championship as Oklahoma was picked to play, only to be humiliated by USC, 55-19.  What could have been, what should’ve been, we will never know.

Oklahoma has come into the Sugar Bowl as the favorite at 5 points , but if the injury bug has passed and Auburn is at full strength, the Tigers may be able to pick up where they left off after reeling off six straight wins. It should be a fun game to watch, Januray 2nd. Be sure to check back in the weeks to come as all the TET columnist will be sharing their thoughts as Auburn prepares for the game.

But for now, let’s hear what you, the reader, has to say.  Excited about the Sugar Bowl invitation?
