Spain is associated with sun and beach. And on the mainland you can spend a lot of nice holidays. But the country also has islands where it is nice to stay. We list them all for you, they might be inspiration for your next holiday!

10. La Gomera

Gomera is one of the smaller Canary Islands, but no less interesting. Especially if you are looking for peace and quiet, this may well be your destination. The island has not been developed specifically for tourism, so you will not find the large hordes of visitors like those on the other islands. La Gomera is an ideal hiking destination. The island is green, has many forests, rocks, waterfalls and a unique collection of fauna and flora. From Tenerife you can take a ferry and you will be there in no time.

9. Minorca

Minorca or Menorca is the easternmost island in the Balearic Islands, which is next to the more famous Mallorca. This island has a quieter atmosphere, so if you like to spend your holiday without thousands of other tourists, Minorca is the place to be for you. It is sometimes said that this island has the most beaches. So if you’re looking for one that you want just for you, you’ve come to the right place. And if you have enough lying on your butt in the sand, you can, for example, go and see the megalithic stone monuments navetes and talaiots.

8. Formentera

Formentera is sometimes said to be in the shadow of its bigger brother Ibiza. Yet the island offers a lot! Especially the beautiful, white beaches attract a lot of enthusiasts. On Formentera there are also beaches where you can recreate naked. The island mainly attracts families who love nature and relatively isolated beach holidays. In the holiday months it can be quite busy, in the low season it is wonderfully quiet. Tired of the beach? Then you can go to La Mola, a beautiful cliff with a lighthouse that is worth a visit.

7. Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is the elongated island of the Canary. It is quite often windy, and therefore heaven for surfers and kite surfers. Parts of the island are quite developed, other parts are not. In general, the island has a fairly rough appearance. Formerly the granary of the region, today tourism and the cultivation of aloe vera provide the beauty industry with its income. The large sand dunes (with sand that has blown over from the Sahara, Fuerteventura is 100 km from the African coast) are a beautiful place. Corralejo, which is a little further, is a pleasant touristy developed town. And if you don’t like so much wind, then the Costa Calma is a good destination for you.

6. Lanzarote

Lovers of special views will love the “black”, the most northerly Canary Island of Lanzarote. The volcanic landscape that covers more than a quarter of the island is therefore one of a kind. You can visit the lava fields and craters in the Timanfaya National Park, but you do that with a bus, driving around with your own car is not allowed. Be sure to take a look at the park’s restaurant, where the meat is baked on an 8-meter deep underground barbecue, which uses geothermal heat. There are also beaches on Lanzarote, at Playa Blanca they are white.

5. La Palma

Loved by tourists all year round. Palma is sometimes called “the Beautiful Island”. This is mainly due to the spectacular interior, which is particularly suitable for walking. For example, you can hike to the largest crater in the world.

4. Gran Canaria

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on the northern coast of Gran Canaria is one of the largest Spanish cities, fully developed for tourism. The island itself has different landscapes, from large dunes, mountains, to forests and beaches. In Gran Canaria there are also excellent dive spots where you can view a beautiful underwater world. The island with its eternal summer is also particularly suitable for surfing, golfing, walking and cycling.

3. Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest of the Spanish islands. The South side of the island is well developed for tourism (El Arenal for example), on the North side there is still beautiful nature, including the Tramuntana mountains. Top to visit is also the capital, La Palma with its beautiful cathedral, La Seu, and the typical Bellver castle. A train ride to Soller is also quite an experience and during a (brisk) bike ride to Cap Formentor, the fantastic views will stay with you for a long time.

2. Tenerife

Busy, busy, busy, that’s probably what you think obout when you think of Tenerife. That’s right, the Canary Island attracts many tourists all year round. But beyond those areas, also known for their lively nightlife, there is a lot more to do on this island. For the sporty visitors: surfing, windsurfing, diving, biking and hiking. For those who love the mountains, the area around the Teide is the place to be. And while you can sit on the beach in the sun in the winter, there is, on the highest peak, you can easily reach it with a lift, sometimes snow. Do not forget to bring a jacket then.

1. Ibiza

Our clear number 1, the romantic island of Ibiza. Endlessly busy and lively, but also beautiful bays and tranquility. You can find it all on this island. If you are part of the party crowd, you will enjoy Ibiza Town or San Antonio. It starts there in the later afternoon and the party continues until the early hours. But there is also the quiet Ibiza and the beautiful nature. The Cova de Can Marca, for example, is a perfect getaway for when you want to get out of your beach chair.
