Padharo Mare Des -- Our Rajasthan Trip -- The first leg

‘Shree Ganesh’ of our Road trip

As per our plan we kick started our road trip to Rajasthan on 12th November 2016. Our first halt was Mumbai, at my parents' place. From here we left for Ahmedabad in the early morning of 13th November,2016. The challenge was to reach Ghodbunder bridge near Fountain hotel well before truck traffic started moving. Thankfully, our little one got ready without fuss and we were there around 7.15 am. On reaching there we realised that only one side of the bridge moves at a time thus bringing the other side to a complete stop for 10 mins or more. Luckily when we reached this spot our side was open and in no time we were cruising along Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway.

As the road unwinded

We took our first break near Vapi. There are many decent eateries here and one break can be good before you move further ahead. The one where we stopped had not started serving breakfast yet so after tea we feasted on some 'maa ke haath ka' theplas and moved ahead. The change in road condition as you step out of Maharashtra and enter Gujarat is instant! We made the most of those smooth and excellent roads by driving at triple digit speed for maximum of our driving through Gj and Rj.

The big concern (and some relief).

The recent demonetization of 1K and 500/- rupees notes was one major impeding factor of our journey. Although we had managed to gather as much “chutta” (change) as possible there was still some concern as to how much smoothly we will manage the entire trip? We did face some challenges during our stay in Rajasthan but of those we had no inkling right now.

Still, wavering of toll fees across India did provide some solace to our troubled minds and helped us save some petty change for the trip. And because the waive off got extended till 24th Nov our whole trip became TOLL-FREE!

The pleasure strip.

Absolute Makkhan!
First night halt

Thanks to the roads we were traveling as per our estimated time. Our respective mothers had packed so many things to eat that we decided to forgo a proper lunch break and had our food in the car! My kid enjoyed seeing his aai baba eating out of tiffin boxes just like he does at school.

Finally we made it to Ahmedabad by 3.00 pm that evening and checked into Hotel Grand Elegance on Sindhu Bhavan Marg, Bodakdev area for our first night stay. As the evening was free we took a rick and went to see Sabarmati River Front. It is a beautiful sight especially during evenings. The whole premise looks like a small, shining ring and provides an excellent retreat to localites. The fact that it is spic and span increases its ‘face value’.

On our way back from there, as we headed for Athiti Dining Hall on Judges Bunglow Road, I spotted a Wagh Bakri Tea Lounge. We had seen coffee lounges before but a tea lounge was novelty. Coming back to dinner, Athiti's thali was excellent, perhaps the most delicious one we had on this trip. But marred only by the fact that they refused payment by card. Our spirits were marginally dented on having to pay-up cash so early on in our trip but we slept it off. It was anyway a long day today, with total run of 550 kms completed in 8 hours (7 hours driving time and 1 hour break time) and we needed some good sleep to recharge our batteries for tomorrow when there will be new roads to take and new places to see as we reach Jodhpur - The land of Marwar.

While in Ahmedabad :

Stay at : The Grand Elegance Hotel (3.5 stars)
Eat at : Athiti Dining Hall (4 stars)
See : Sabarmati River Front (4 stars)
About the city : Clean.
