Padharo Mare Des -- Our Rajasthan Trip -- The prequel.

The big question

“Where to this year?”, I asked. The question came too soon and too suddenly for Abhijeet (my husband) to give a “good” answer. So, he did what he could do best, and that is to pretend to think while avoiding to answer. While he went by his natural male tendency I went by my feminine decisiveness and before long I declared that we would be traveling to Rajasthan - The Land of Kings!

The ‘HOW’ ?

Whether Abhi wanted to go there or not was out of question. Mulling over another destination would have served no good so he started working on the ‘commute’ aspect of our Trip. Anyone who loves driving would never let go of an opportunity to cover this place by  his own vehicle. And that is how it was for us. “We would be doing a road trip”, he declared (quite predictably) to me one day. “More car space means more shopping!” was my instant reaction.

Things begin to roll (dragging Abhi with them)

“I am reading about Rajasthan in order to chart out our tour. You too start reading stuff.” I warned Abhi.  This was done in order to allow him his share of spots in the tour. Mostly he complains that I try to squeeze in too many things and make him run from one place to another. As expected, very subtly he reminded me that it was a bit too soon to ‘study’. It was just May and the proposed trip would be in December. But I like to plan and plan ahead of time.

Google docs were made and updated by me and shared with Abhi on a regular basis. Every time there would be an addition there it would be followed by many rounds of discussion at home. Frankly speaking, Abhi could not get the head or tail of it. Holidays are meant for unwinding he kept saying, if you have to slog so hard before a holiday, why take one? Again, I paid no heed to his qualms. If Abhi could have his way on any trip then we would spend days sleeping and watching TV in our hotel room.

The plot thickens

Sometimes when Abhi did go through those innumerable sheets shared by me, he seriously felt like reminding me about the equation of speed, time and distance. According to him, the only way we could cover all those places which I had put in there was to FLY from one to another. Again, he said, a trip is a BREAK from routine meant to be taken for relaxation! But his counter argument needed some foolproof backing, some theory. So, in order to convince me, he actually started on his homework. He began talking to people at work about Rajasthan and taking inputs from them, reading up about routes and places and coming up with his plan. Eventually after innumerable changes and re-thoughts and late night discussions and arguments and what not, we had an itinerary ready!
It would be Pune-Mumbai-Jodhpur-Pushkar-Jaipur-Udaipur-Mumbai-Pune in 13 days during November.

Why November? Because Abhi wanted to see if we could save some money on lodging by traveling before Christmas. To me anything would do as long as we were GOING.
