Game Titles That Sound Like a Bunch of Random Words Strung Together

Some games have amazing titles that stick into people’s minds forever, while others sound so bizarre that folks scratch their heads in confusion.  I’ll admit that it must be hard to create a worthwhile game title, one that sells games simply by name alone.  This collection of ten games did not meet that mark, and sound like a random pile of words pulled out of a hat.  These are in no particular order.

Silhouette Mirage: Reprogrammed Hope (PS1)

Silhouette Mirage: Reprogrammed Hope has a nice ring to it until you pay attention to the fact that none of the four words used have any sort of cohesion to each other whatsoever.  I know the title was probably trying to be mysterious, but invoking the image of a false shadow is a bit pretentious and sounds like misuse of a Japanese to English dictionary.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (Multi)

Ubisoft could have really called this “Pandora’s Box” or something, but it seems like they took a page out of a Japanese RPG game title seminar and stuck two random words together.

World Soccer Winning Eleven 5: Final Evolution (PS2)

This series is the reason that numbers should not be in titles unless it is the year or series number.   Shame it was renamed Pro Evolution Soccer, because I wanted to see Winning Eleven 11.

Infinite Undiscovery (360)

This sounds like the most boring and depressing game ever, based on the title alone.  Imagine a game where you wander around and do nothing for hours upon hours, and no I’m not talking about World of Warcraft. (::  Rimshot ::)  Just kidding folks

Twin Eagle: Revenge Joe’s Brother (Arcade)

Ah yes, goofy “engrish” in game titles makes me laugh.  This was not the only bad translation in the game as the game over screen in many versions of the game simply said “The player game is abortion” which had to utterly confuse anyone playing this scrolling shooter.  And check out the box art….AWESOME!

Tech Romancer (DC)

Simply put: This game sounds like a porn with a robot.

Beyond the Beyond (PS1)

Trying to be a bit wondrous and existentialist in game titles rarely has a desired effect, and usually comes across as pretentious or silly.  Some games like Final Fantasy sound lame when a sequel is being made (Final Fantasy XIII ?), but have good games to back the name up.  Beyond the Beyond…not so much.

Divine Divinity (PC)

Alliteration is good, unless you use the same word twice.

Every Extend Extra Extreme (XBLA)

Game creator 1: “hey I need four words that start with the letter ‘E’ so that my chosen acronym of E4 doesn’t sound stupid.”

Game creator 2: “let’s be lazy and skim the dictionary for four random words.”

Game creator 1: “sounds good to me!”

Ninja Baseball Bat Man (Arcade)

Pretty much the worst superhero name ever.
