Shell, Liter of Light partnership gives light to families in Ang

Pilipinas Shell and Liter of Light teamed up to give solar-powered house lights to 100 families in Norzagaray, Bulacan.

The giving of solar-powered house lights is part of Shell’s Access to Energy (A2E) campaign, which aims to give communities better access to renewable energy through waste reduction and other eco-friendly means.

“We use access to energy, particularly clean energy, to empower the communities around our areas of operations and help them to develop to their full potential,” said Sankie Simbulan, Social Performance and Social Investment manager of Shell Companies in the Philippines.

Creating more light by reducing waste is the goal of the project.

Shell set up donation sites for PET bottles in 60 of their retail stations scattered around Metro Manila. Liter of Light volunteers then trained and guided Shell employees on how to make solar-powered house lights.

“From the customer who donated plastic bottles at your Shell station, to the staff and personnel who learned how to build the light, to volunteers who came to Angat today to turn over this gift of light, Shell understands and shares Liter of Light values to bring the people together to solve the huge challenge of energy poverty,” said Silvana Diaz, mother of Liter of Light’s founder Illac Diaz, who graced the turnover ceremony.

Providing innovative energy solutions is part of Shell’s vision of giving access to sustainable energy, advancing inclusive growth and nation-building. The company also focuses on improving sustainable mobility and cleaner-burning natural gas, smarter fuels and lubricants technology.
