I am so ready to end this whole Might Beyond the Mirror/Queen of Fables/Tsaritsa story by now.  It had such a disjointed setup to get to here that by now, I am having problems keeping things straight.  The way things have progressed, it seems I am not the only one!  Besides all that, I am just not having fun with the story as a whole and adding Promethea to the mix is not an instant win, but the exact opposite.  Steve Orlando is really playing the Devil's Hand with such a beloved character and I can only hope he doesn't disappoint.  Of course, the fact that he didn't have the decency to reach out to her creators before throwing her in last issue's cliffhanger doesn't give me high hopes of that!  So, is this issue any good?  Let's find out...

The issue opens with a bizarre scene inside the Red where Vixen lays out the rules of how she can save the world to all the "Wishers".  Save the world...lose your wishes.  I don't mind Vixen seemingly taking the place of Animal Man (he hasn't really been around), but it just felt like a convenient and forced way for Mari to get ahold of everyone she needs too.

The next page spells out one of the major problems with this series.  Even when Steve Orlando is trying to hook everyone up with a little recap, it all comes across as a bunch of names thrown together with some hokey dialogue.  We get the narration from Frost and in between the same old lines about her being scared of her powers, she fights off Lobo.  We also get the Queen versus Promethea, but it is more of a contest of who can spit out the worst dialogue than anything else.  We then get Ryan to Frost's rescue and after he shrinks down Lobo it really seems like there is a word balloon mix-up, but with the crap that everyone is saying, who can tell?!?!

After Promethea goes away, Vixen arrives with her wishers army (?) and topples the Queen's tower while the other's look on and again, just say words that hardly make any sense.  Frost continues to narrate and again, it's stuff we've seen over and over...this time about not wanting to lose her wish of being cured.  However, when Tsaritsa shows that she cares nothing for Frost's friends (it took her that long to figure this out?), Caitlyn gets back her sickness and kills the Queen.  Yep, the villain that has been hinted at since the beginning of this series and was part of so much is just killed in a half page panel!

After an "I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me." moment, Promethea tells Caitlyn a very brief origin story and them BAM!  Ups and leaves.  The issue ends with the Ray back on the team (and some revisionist history of his role in leaving) and their old boss returning with the promise of more ridiculousness to come.  Next stop, Angor!  Oh, goodie!

If you take away all the awful dialogue, forced situations and sheer nonsense this issue dishes out, this issue is still an epic fail as we take 20 plus issues of setup and flush them down the toilet in one page!  Talk about anti-climactic endings to a storyline!  Of course, I am not going to take away all those other things I started with and while I liked the art as much as I usually do in this book (which is a lot), I can only be glad that this horrid run of JLA is almost over.  This book is just not good and needs to end!

Bits and Pieces:

Steve Orlando ends his Might Beyond the Mirror story and while it had a very convoluted buildup, it deserved a better sendoff than this.  To say it fell flat is an understatement and even the controversy of Promethea joining in lead to nothing at all.  This book is one of the worst that DC puts on the shelf regularly and needs to end even sooner than it already is.
