Akshay Kumar’s Padman Is Banned In Pakistan; Here’s The Real Reason Behind It

Akshay Kumar’s Padman is in the news for the most noble cause. The movie has released today and the early reviews tell us that the movie has been loved by a lot of people. Pad Man is Bollywood’s first film that will release in Russia, Ivory Coast and Iraq on the same day as it hits the screens in India.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, the movie is banned in Pakistan. An exhibitor told the daily that the movie has been denied an NOC.

The source informed Pinkvilla, Another industry source informs, “Padman was initially bought by Amjad Rashid of IMGC but after he was shown the trailer, he was adviced not to import the film. Later HKC bought it and applied for NOC which was denied.”

A senior executive told the daily about the denial of the NOC, “Well, you know how the mentality is in our Asian men towards periods and they don’t want to discuss this as it’s a taboo. Sadly.”

The makers of the film are not so affected about this decision, “Pakistan as a territory is not a big one so even if Padman does not release there, it will not have any effect on the business of the film.”

The film is based on Arunachalam Muruganantham, a small town entrepreneur from Tamil Nadu, who invented cost-effective sanitary napkins to generate awareness in rural areas. If there is one actor who can attempt a film on such topic, it’s Akshay Kumar. He has turned the tables in his favour since his dull phase.

Akshay, apart from Pad Man, has films like 2.0 and Gold in his kitty — each different from the other.

The Pad Man promotions have seen at least over a 30 film celebrities posing with an open sanitary napkin as part of the #PadManChallenge to convey there’s nothing to be ashamed about something as natural as menstruation. But is it actually helping in breaking taboos surrounding the subject, or is it just another marketing gimmick?

It’s Valentine’s Day week, but more than the Rose Day, Chocolate Day and the likes, it’s the #PadManChallenge that has taken social media by storm. The challenge came close on the heels of the release of Pad Man.
