A couple of weeks ago, New York Liberty guard Marine Johannes was preparing to join France and compete in the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup. Her dream was to beat Team USA in the final game. Sadly, she won’t be able to do it as a thigh injury has forced her to withdraw from the tournament.

Mamignan Touré, who plays for the Gazelles from Lattes, Montepellier in France will replace her in the french roster.

Johannes left an exhibition game against Team USA injured and in Sydney, the test results revealed the severity. The French Federation informed that Johannes was going to be out at least 10 days and given the short schedule for the international tournament she wasn’t going to be able to compete with the team.

In the recent WNBA season, Johannes became in a solid rotation player for Liberty’s new head coach Sandy Brondello. She played in 24 games and started in 10 of those. She improved her scoring from 7.2 points per game in her rookie season in 2019 to 10 points per game.

However, her best improvement came from the three-point line shooting 43,7% in the recent season.

France will open the World Cup against Australia on Thursday.
