Baylor Bears senior wing Matthew Mayer has withdrawn from the 2022 NBA Draft and is still seeking to transfer to a new program. He maintained his college eligibility and will make use of the extra year granted to college players because of the impact the coronavirus had on the 2020-21 season. He has received plenty of interest, but the main programs interested immediately are the USC Trojans, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Memphis Tigers, Alabama Crimson Tide, Illinois Fighting Illini, and the North Carolina Tar Heels. Returning to Baylor is reportedly not an option at this time.

As a senior with the Baylor Bears, Matthew Mayer averaged 9.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 40.9 percent and a three-point percentage of 32.4 percent. While he played a primary bench role this season after several injuries Mayer stepped up and led the program to close out the season. Ultimately the defending National Champions lost in an overtime thriller in the second round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament to the North Carolina Tar Heels.

While he has not made a decision yet he has been heavily linked with the North Carolina Tar Heels. The program has one scholarship open and with their main core returning, Matthew Mayer could help the team win a National Championship. Either way, he will be a highly sought-after graduate transfer and will elevate the team he commits to for next season. He will also get to improve his professional stock and make some more NIL money while doing that.
