Issa Rae has signed on to write, produce and star in the English language version of Paolo Genovese’s Perfect Strangers. The 2016 Italian film centers around a group of friends who play a game in which they place their phones face up on the table and agree to make all calls and texts public. Ultimately, everyone in the group hopes they can prove they have nothing to hide. Instead, their friendships are pushed to the edge.

Rae said, “I’m really looking forward to bringing this funny and compelling story to a new demographic and could not be happier about partnering with the Spyglass team to make it happen.”

She added, “I loved the original film and think the story will resonate with audiences here as well.”

Rae is currently readying the release of her latest film, The Photograph, with Lakeith Stanfield. She is also shooting the next season of her HBO show, Insecure. Not to mention, she’s expressed interest in being a part of a Set It Off reboot.

There is no release date or cast for this film yet. Stay tuned for more details about Perfect Strangers in the future.
