Netflix Teases a New Kind of Reality Competition in the ‘Hyperdrive’ Trailer

Netflix revealed a new racing reality TV show with the first trailer for ‘Hyperdrive,’ an upcoming original series from the streamer. (Netflix)

So, everybody knows Netflix has got some money to throw around. They’ve spent an exorbitant amount on FYC campaigns, advertising, and content acquisition. (Though they didn’t land it, they reportedly offered $90 million an episode to keep The Office.) However, I’m not sure if anyone thought they had build-real-life-Hot-Wheels-tracks-and-host-a-racing-competition money.

Well, I guess we should’ve expected it because that’s exactly what Netflix did, according to the Trailer for their new series Hyperdrive. Okay, so the reality racing show may not be a full-on Hot Wheels style competition with loops and all that fun stuff. But, this definitely isn’t Top Gear. I think the trailer’s opening moments put it best, “Absolutely nothing compares to the spectacle you are about to see.”

According to the rest of the trailer, drivers from all walks of life have come to compete against one another in a competition like no other. I could try to (poorly) describe all the crazy shit that happens in this trailer. But, I think it’s best if I just leave you with a quote from the trailer and the trailer itself: “It’s like The Fast and the Furious but, in real life.”

Hyperdrive will hit Netflix in just a few weeks on August 21st.
