The Cleveland Browns announced that they signed former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt Monday afternoon. The Browns took to Twitter to announce the controversial signing.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on some the details of the signing.

Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey released a statement regarding the new addition to his team soon after the announcement.

Kareem Hunt also released a statement after signing with the Browns.

Kareem Hunt was released by the Kansas City Chiefs back in November after video of him physically attacking a woman outside his hotel room was released. That incident, ironically, occurred in Cleveland back in February of 2018. He is currently on the NFL’s commissioner’s exempt list and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Hunt’s suspension will be announced soon.

Hunt could return to the team after serving his suspension, however long that may be. The public relations hit that the Browns will suffer from this signing will be short-lived if Hunt produces at that rate that he did while playing with the Chiefs. The Browns are looking to make the playoffs this year for the first time since 2002 and the addition of Hunt will help them reach that goal.
