Channing Frye Out at Least a Week Following Appendectomy

New Laker big man Channing Frye will be out at least a week after having an appendectomy on Friday, according to Mike Bresnahan of Spectrum of Sportsnet.

Appendectomies are procedures done to remove an infected or potentially infected appendix. The Lakers will evaluate Frye’s condition in a week, Frye is currently in Cleveland for the All-Star break.

The 34-year-old stretch-five has appeared in only one game since arriving in Los Angeles at the trade deadline. In Cleveland, Frye played in 44 games averaging 4.8 points and 2.5 rebounds in 12 minutes per game this season. He shot only 33 percent from three-point range on two attempts per contest.

As Frye has aged, his playing time with the Cavaliers decreased with head coach Tyronn Lue electing to go with younger options in the frontcourt.

Frye isn’t expected to see much floor time in Los Angeles, and most likely will not look to return to the team at seasons end when his contract expires. Frye is a 38 percent three-point shooter for his career and shot 40 percent per game from there a season ago with the Cavs.

Frye has played for five teams over the course of his 11-year career in the NBA. Frye has made stops with the Knicks, Suns, Trailblazers, and Magic before landing with the Cavaliers in 2015.
