REPORT: Bulls Trading Jameer Nelson to Pistons for Willie Reed

Hopefully, you didn’t buy yourself a Detroit Pistons Willie Reed jersey or any Chicago Bulls ‘shirseys’ with Jameer Nelson’s name on the back because they are being traded for each other.

Jameer Nelson was recently acquired by Chicago as a part of the Pelicans package in the Nikola Mirotic trade. While the Pelicans almost immediately made it known that they would waive Tony Allen, they seemed interested in keeping Nelson. He’s now being shipped for another player that was recently traded, Pistons big man Willie Reed. He was used to help facilitate the blockbuster Blake Griffin deal a little over a week ago.

Following comes from Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports.

Nelson, 35, is heading to Detroit to help their point guard rotation which took a hit earlier this season with the Reggie Jackson injury. Ish Smith has held his own in replace of Jackson but outside of that, their guard play has been spotty, at best. He’ll provide some solid backup minutes for a Detroit team looking to make a push for the playoffs. Plus, he’s reuniting with his old coach from his Orlando Magic days in Stan Van Gundy.

Willie Reed is currently serving a six-game suspension after the NBA did an investigation into his domestic violence incident from the fall of 2017. The NBPA is currently filing a grievance against his suspension. The Bulls are planning to waive Reed.
