Doc Rivers: Blake Griffin Put Clippers ‘On the Map’

Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers had some kind words to say about Blake Griffin, whom the Clips just traded to the Detroit Pistons, per TNT.

“Trading Blake, number one, was hard, obviously. Blake was great for us. I really believe Blake put this franchise on the map. This franchise doesn’t have a lot of great history. “When you get a guy like Blake, and he started it. DJ and Chris – but it was really Blake who started it for us in a lot of ways with his name and his good play.”

The Clippers traded Griffin for Avery Bradley, Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic and two draft picks.

With this move, the Clippers have begun to hit the reset button. The next step will likely be to trade their other good players with value – DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams. The Clippers are indeed aiming to trade both of those players, per a report from Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Griffin is averaging 22.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and a career-high 5.4 assists per game on 44.1 percent shooting this season. He’s also shooting 34.2 percent from 3-point range on 5.7 attempts per game – by far the highest of his career.
