The first iterations of the Slender Man started bouncing their way around the internet back in 2009. The meme, much like the campfire stories and urban legends that came before it, started to take on a life of its own.
What started as a purely creative outlet soon became something much more real when two 12-year-old girls stabbed another girl 19 times in a forest, in an attempt to please the Slender Man. Leading to a very publicized and drawn-out court case in which one of the perpetrators plead guilty to the stabbing due to reasons of insanity.
Sony is attempting to switch the narrative back towards the more urban legend like nature of the Slender Man with a new horror Film that is set to hit theatres in May. The film looks kinda schlocky and experimental in all of the wrong ways from the look of the first Trailer. But if the minds behind the film have truly incorporated some of the terrifying user-generated stories that are out there the film has a chance for success.
We’ve attached the first trailer and additional information on the Slender Man character below.
‘The Slender Man (also known as Slenderman) is a fictional supernatural character that originated as a creepypasta Internet meme created by Something Awful forums user Eric Knudsen (also known as “Victor Surge”) in 2009. It is depicted as a thin, unnaturally tall man with a featureless head and face, wearing a black suit.’ – Via Wikipedia
