It’s no secret that Chris Brown has had his ups and downs throughout his career. The most infamous moment was the incident with Rihanna back in 2009. Rumors and reports were circulating about what happened that night. We finally get the details from the horse’s mouth.

In the documentary Chris Brown: Welcome to My Life, Breezy goes in-depth about everything that happened that night. He states that the relationship between the two had been an abusive one, on both sides.

The fight in the Lamborghini stemmed from a woman who worked for Brown. Early in their relationship, Rihanna asked Chris if he had slept with her to which he denied, only to admit later that he did sleep with the woman.

Chris Brown on admitting sleeping with the woman:

“After that, my trust was lost with her. She hated me after that. I tried everything, she didn’t care. She just didn’t trust me after that. From there, it just went downhill because there were too many verbal fights, physical fights as well. Mutual sides. We would fight each other. She would hit me, I would hit her and it never was okay.”

The night of the Clive Davis Grammy party, Chris had a text from the woman in which he claims he “didn’t even open.” He promised Rihanna that she wouldn’t be at the party, however, she greeted the couple at their seats. Brown later gave Rihanna his phone as a sign of trust and that he had nothing to hide. The unopened text showed the woman saying that she, in fact, would be showing up to the party. This drove Rihanna mad.

Brown on what happened after reading the text:

“She starts going off, she throws the phone. ‘I hate you.’ Starts hitting me. We’re in a little Lamborghini. She’s fighting me. I’m like, ‘Look, I’m telling you the truth, I swear’… She hits me a couple of more times and it doesn’t go from translation to, ‘Let’s sit down, I’m telling you the truth.’ It goes to, ‘Now, I’m going to be mean, be evil.’ I remember she tried to kick me, but then I really hit her, with a closed fist, I punched her. I busted her lip. When I saw it, I was in shock. I was like, ‘F–k, why the hell did I hit her?’”

It’s good to see Breezy owning up to his mistakes like a man. We all know Chris will have to wear this for the rest of his career, but this was therapy for him. He has his demons and I hope he is defeating them. I like “Fine China” Breezy, not “Pills and Automobiles.”
