Brad Stevens on Future With Celtics: “Ultimately I’m Going to be Here”

Brad Stevens has had quite a bit of success in the NBA. The former Butler Bulldogs head coach accepted to lead the Celtics through their short rebuild and has now created a contender in the Eastern Conference.

Despite the success in the big leagues, Stevens still finds himself among the odd rumor surrounding his future coaching career. Most notably, Stevens has been linked to numerous college openings due to his history of success in the NCAA.

But Stevens does not seem at all interested in a return to college basketball. As he told Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, Stevens plans on staying with the Celtics for some time:

“Nobody calls,” Stevens said, referring to universities with job openings. “The only thing people usually call me for is to ask questions about candidates. Everybody has a pretty good idea of where I stand, and I think ultimately I’m going to be here. I think that’s pretty well known.”

The Celtics should be pleased by their head coach’s loyalty. Since entering the NBA, Stevens has accumulated a 155-158 record but has improved in every season to this point.

Stevens has not had much success in the postseason but he has proven himself an able head coach. His loyalty to the Celtics is key as they continue to build a contender.
