5D4N Taiwan Trip: Exploring the nostalgic Shifen Old Street (十分老街) and the scenic views at Shifen Waterfall (十份大瀑布)

It’s time for me to update my Taipei Travelogue! Continue from my previous post, today I will be sharing my discovery in Shifen, New Taipei City (十分, 新台北市). On the same day itself, we drove from the Yangmingshan National Park (陽明山) to Pingxi District (平溪区) and it took us about an hour to reach our destination, Shifen Old Street.

Welcome to Shifen Old Street (十分老街)!
Shifen Old Street (十分老街) is one of the most popular tourist attraction places in New Taipei City, Taiwan. It is very accessible for visitors to travel via by train from Taipei Main Station or shuttle bus services from Jiufen (九份). Hence, one of the memorable experiences for tourists will be the Shifen railway track and the releasing of Chinese lantern (放天灯).

For your info, the Shifen Old Street was originally built for transporting coal during the early Japanese days, whereby the station and track are connected straight through the village.

It was my first time visiting the Shifen Old Street (十分老街), I am amazed by the warmth and lively atmosphere by their locals. The stalls lined along the Shifen Old Street were also a good place to hunt for some authentic Taiwan Xiaochi (小吃) snacks and the gift souvenirs. Likewise, this place is definitely Instagram-worthy for all visitors.

Train is coming... Train is coming... the part where everyone need to make way for the train!
What’s more? While walking along the Shifen railway track, at the same time I am able to see a real train passing through the Shifen Old Street and the experience was thrilling and cool. *PS: Something in Singapore that you can’t really experience unless train breakdown… lol*

As a tourist, it is a MUST to release at least ONE Chinese lantern!!! We used the calligraphy brush dipped in black ink to write down our wishes on the paper lantern. No worry, 1 paper lantern just nice for 4 of us. If you have a big group, just buy more! More for more luck!

A group photo before sending our wishes to the sky~!

Delighted for the success of releasing the Chinese lantern
Before leaving this place, you might want to take little steps toward the 十分静安桥 to view the marvelous scenery. If you are a photographer or nature landscape lover, be prepared to bring along your ultra-wide lens to capture the stunning sunset landscape.

Stunning landscape, feel so peaceful with the refreshing air!
Next, Shifen Waterfall (十分大瀑布)! We were welcomed by the golden sunset while making our way to visit the Shifen Waterfall which was located 20 minutes away from the Pingxi District.

do note that it closed at 5.30pm.

"We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us."

Wefie with my Taiwanese friends at the 20 meter tall - Shifen Waterfall! It's spectacular!

Gigantic Shifen Waterfall (十份大瀑布)
The Shifen Waterfall is one of the most photogenic places in Taiwan. I enjoyed the satisfaction feeling when reaching the entrance of the Shifen Waterfall. It was amazing and I admired the breathtaking waterfall landscape. Honestly speaking, all the long distance walk including those up and down hill slope were definitely worth the adventure! Thank you my friends for the memorable and spectacular journey in Pingxi District, Taiwan. 十分精彩!
