As with groceries, the key to a good (and on-budget) shopping trip is to go with a list. If you’ve still got gaps in your Holiday Gift list, check out this last minute Wellness Gift Guide for the fitness and health-conscious person.
Personal Training Gift Certificate: You can help your friend achieve their goals with the personalized attention you get a myTRAINER. Price: worth it! (Get more information here.)
New activity or sport to try: A great way for a fitness fan to keep in shape and keep momentum is to mix up their routine. Think swim classes, Zumba classes, rowing classes, yoga classes (did you know we have a yoga class here?), or even trampoline fitness classes! Price: Varies (most likely $75 and up)
Cold weather exercise gear: Although it’s been a mild winter so far in Highland Park, it’s still been chilly on and off. Find some really great running tights or gloves for that winter outdoorsy type on your list. (See Fitness Magazine’s great guide here.) Price: $20 and up
Fitness Tracker: No wellness Gift Guide would be complete without a hat tip to activity trackers. Activity trackers have come a long way. You can still find basic pedometers on the cheap, but activity trackers are now highly functional and track more than your steps. Most sync with your smartphone, and can track flights climbed, heart rate, help you keep track of your food, weight, and sleep patterns. There are a lot of options out there depending on style, activity, and budget. Check out this great review guide for more information. Price: $100 and up
Headphones: a good pair of headphones is hard to find. If your wellness-minded friend loves their jams but has graduated from the pair that came with their phone, check out headphones at the nearest electronics store. Some people are particular about in-ear headphones, so you may want to ask or test the waters with a mutual friend. There are many wired, wireless, waterproof, and even noise canceling styles—there’s something for every one. Price: $25 and up
Meal Planning Subscription/App: Healthy diet is a wellness cornerstone. Many people who eat well swear by meal planning as a way to keep things in order. There are a number of options out there. Some plans/ apps include a set of weekly meal plans, many autocrat shopping lists for you (and ways to customize those lists), and many allow you to import your own recipes. In combing through reviews top apps and sites include CookSmarts, PepperPlate, Plan to Eat, and Zip Lists. Price: Subscription plans – $5/ month & up; Apps – $5 and up
Gift Cards: If they have a special diet, get them a gift card to their favorite specialty grocery store or restaurant (Protein Bar, Snap Kitchen, or their favorite healthy restaurant) If they’re into a particular sport, grab them a card from their favorite speciality store (Feet Fleet, Chicago Soccer, etc.) You also can’t miss with a gift card for an all service fitness/ sports store (Dicks, Sports Authority, Niketown, REI, or Lululemon and Athleta for ladies’ speciality shops, too). Price: You choose
