Nakuul Mehta And Sona Mohapatra Get Into War Of Words And Shahid Kapoor's Kabir Singh Is To Be Blamed

Shahid Kapoor-led Hindi remake of Telugu superhit Arjun Reddy, Kabir Singh released over the weekend. The Movie has turned out to be the biggest opener in Shahid Kapoor's career beating Sanjay Leela Bhansali's directorial Padmaavat. However, while the movie is earning commercial applauds, it isn't going down well with a certain section of the society. The movie's strong misogynism hasn't fared well with the strong-willed. As a result, the movie has been receiving a lot of flaks for its "trashy" content. TV actor Nakuul Mehta who happened to watch the movie, remained mum about the content of the movie however, couldn't resist himself from applauding Shahid Kapoor's performance.

In a tweet, the actor wrote, how the problematic parts of the movie are kept aside, the portrayal of Kabir Singh by Shahid is quite well. "There are 99 problems but @shahidkapoor ain't one. Leaving the politics of the film aside, it's a brilliant portrayal. In every frame and owned each of 'em. #KabirSingh," his tweet read.

However, Bedardi Raja singer Sona Mohapatra didn't agree to Mehta's thoughts of ignoring the political part of the movie. She even questioned an actor's responsibility towards the society while choosing a movie. " how can we keep such deeply disturbing , dark & dangerous politics aside ? Does the actor have no responsibility for choosing to play a part in a narrative that can set us back as a society? Is that all we have become? Creatures of ambition?," Sona's tweet read.

Here's what she said...

The actor also had a retort to it. In a series of tweets, he shared his perspective. "Sure we must! Exactly the conversation which ensued post watching the film. It's something I ask myself too having done a fairly popular role which in parts did succumb to the narrative of patriarchy & machismo but eventually redeemed himself. Contd.." one of his tweets read. The other one read, "A dialogue is a must. We must question it, discuss it. As an artist, must I judje the character I play? Maybe not. As a thinking individual? Yes. Can we seperate the performance from the performer Tough questions we must ask ourselves, given the times we are in."
