Rajpal Yadav Sentenced To Six Months Of Imprisonment In The Cheque Bounce Case, Says He Respects The Judgement

Actor Rajpal Yadav has been sentenced to six months of imprisonment by Delhi’s Karkardooma Court today (April 23) in connection to a cheque bounce case against the actor. Earlier, Rajpal, his wife, Radha Yadav and their company Messrs Shree Naurang Godavari Entertainment were convicted in the said case after they failed to repay a loan of Rs 5 crore to a Delhi-based businessman, MG Agarwal (owner of Murli Projects). Yadav borrowed money from him back in 2010 to invest in his directorial debut film, Ata Pata Laapata, which failed miserably. In 2013, Yadav was even remanded to 10 days judicial custody for concealing facts about the case. The actor was later granted a bail. As per ANI, Rajpal has not only been setenced to six month jail term, but he is also required to pay a fine of Rs 1.60 crore per case as there were total of seven cases that were filed against the actor. This means that the total amount of fine to be paid by Rajpal would amount to about Rs 11.2 crore.

Rajpal in an earlier interview claimed that MG Aggarwal had seen the rushes of Ata Pata Laapata, and decided to invest Rs 5 crore through his company, Murali Projects. However, when Yadav failed to repay the agreed amount of Rs 8 crore in return, MG’s company approached a court and later moved the Delhi high court to seek a stay on the film’s release.

After the judgement, Yadav said that he respects the court’s decision and he will appeal in the higher court

In 2015, he had claimed in court that he had paid Rs 1.58 crore and has to pay back Rs 3.42 crore. He had also told the court that he had got a fresh offer from a company which had agreed to take up the liability of his loan. He had claimed that the loan would be repaid in 30 days. Released in 2012, Ata Pata Laapata also starred Om Puri, Ashutosh Rana, Manoj Joshi, Govind Namdeo, Dara Singh, Vikram Gokhale, Vijay Raaz, and Satyadev Dubey.

Rajpal Yadav made his acting debut in the 1999 film Dil Kya Kare. The actor, who is most famous for his comic roles, has appeared in films like Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Main, Malamaal Weekly, Bhagam Bhag, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and De Dana Dan.
