Bollywood is all set to offer yet another period drama. Titled Panipat, this one will be directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, who, as we all know, has mastered the art of showcasing history on the big screen. The official announcement was made with a poster last month. The film stars Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon. And now, finally, work has begun on the project as Ashutosh has started scouting for locations to shoot his film. Trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, posted a picture on his Instagram account in which we see Ashutosh, along with some of his crew members, on a road surrounded by mountains. “Pre-filming process starts… Ashutosh Gowariker Scouts locations for filming of the new historical #Panipat… Stars Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Kapoor and Kriti Sanon… 6 Dec 2019 release. (sic)” reads the caption on Taran’s post.

Panipat will be based on the third battle of Panipat, which was fought on January 14, 1761, between the Maratha Empire and Durrani Empire, supported by two Indian allies—the Rohilla Afghans of the Doab, and Shuja-ud-Daula, the Nawab of Awadh. Arjun will play the character of Sadashivrao Bhau (commander-in-chief of Maratha Army), while Sanjay will essay the role of Ahmad Shah Durrani (Shah of Durrani Empire), who came out victorious in the Third Battle of Panipat. As for Kriti, she will play the role of Sadashivrao’s second wife Parvatibai.
