Padmaavat box office collection day 2: Ranveer Singh’s film beats Raees and Jai Ho to become the HIGHEST Republic Day grosser

Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor‘s Padmaavat has finally released across the globe and looks like it has started off on a fantastic note. After collecting Rs 5 crore through paid previews and Rs 19 crore on day 1 (working Thursday) at the Indian domestic market, the film added another Rs 32 crore on day 2 (Republic Day). This takes the overall box office tally of the film to Rs 56 crore. While everyone expected the film to see an upward trend on Republic Day (January 26), no one thought it would score such a massive number. In fact, Ranveer Singh’s film has now beaten Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees and Salman Khan’s Jai Ho to become the highest Republic Day grosser ever.

If you check the Republic Day box office collections of each and every film, you will realise that Padmaavat now has the highest Republic Day collection, after raking in Rs 32 crore on the holiday. Raees (Rs 26.30 crore) and Jai Ho (Rs 25 crore) complete the top three, with Agneepath (Rs 23 crore), Race 2 (Rs 20.70 crore), Kaabil (Rs 18.67 crore), Airlift (Rs 17.80 crore) and Baby (Rs 14.90 crore) following suit. All this has been possible courtesy the fantastic pre-release buzz, amazing content, decent reviews and a large screen space that Padmaavat could garner at the domestic box office. Padmaavat has also garnered a tremendous word of mouth publicity from the audience. The engaging story, the fantastic performances and the larger than life visuals have impressed one and all. Our film critic – Urmimala Banerjee also wrote in her review, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film is a visual delight and thoroughly entertaining fare, courtesy the epic performance by Ranveer Singh. It talks about Rajput pride and there is nothing that will offend anyone.” What did you guys think about the movie? Share with us your thoughts about it in the comments section below!
