Thalapathy Vijay‘s Mersal hit theatres on October 18. It’s no exaggeration when say this film was one of the most anticipated releases of this year. Right from its first look poster to its audio album to its teaser and now finally the release, the film has garnered huge buzz! And now post-release, the film has cash registers ringing at the Box Office. The film on day 1 grossed a whopping Rs 1.50 crore at the Chennai Box office. This is an all-time record. In fact, Thalapathy Vijay’s Mersal has managed to beat Ajith Vivegam even which earned Rs 1.21 crore at the Chennai Box office and Rajinikanth’s Kabali that earned Rs 1.12 crore. This is commendable considering, the film faced much delay in bookings as its release in TN was uncertain until one day before the official date. With the extended weekend coming, we can expect Thalapathy Vijay’s Mersal to create new records. Overall the film has received favourable reviews, Thalpathy’s mass appeal and Atlee class direction have been hugely praised. The leading ladies – Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya Menen have also been appreciated for their brief roles. It’s being called the perfect Diwali release as it includes elements of romance, action, and drama. The film, as per the buzz has performed phenomenally at the TN Box office. The movie has raked in Rs 22 crore in TN alone. Reports suggested the film holds the highest opening at the Kerala box office too. At the same time, the film has fared brilliantly overseas. Looks, the Mersal storm has hit! The film follows the story of Dr. Maaran and Magician Vetri who not only avenge their father’s death but also fight against illegal medical practices. The actor’s three different avatars is the highlight of this film.
