We had earlier reported that Shahid Kapoor has signed on his next movie after Padmavati and it will be directed by Shree Narayan Singh. Fresh off the success of his debut directorial, Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Shree Narayan Singh has become one of the most sought-after directors in Bollywood. While his first movie discussed the issue of open defecation and lack of toilet facilities in rural areas, his next will also be revolving around a social cause. Thanks to a report in Mi-Day, we now know which issue will be Singh’s next target, as well as what Shahid Kapoor will be playing in the movie.
The drama will be tackling the discrepancies in the power distribution system in our country where many ordinary consumers are being asked to pay exorbitant bills for no fault of theirs. The social drama is written Vipul K Rawal, who had earlier scripter Rustom for which Akshay Kumar won the National Award earlier this year. This is the first time Shahid Kapoor will be playing a lawyer in a movie, following the footsteps of Akshay Kumar (Jolly LLB 2), Amitabh Bachchan (Pink), Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (Jazbaa), who donned the black robes in recent times. The movie has been tentatively titled Roshni.
Speaking to the paper about the subject, a source revealed, “It’s quite common for people to get astronomical electricity bills and they don’t know how to verify it. The story revolves around the problem of electricity, that’s why it is tentatively called Roshni (light). Shahid plays a lawyer who raises his voice against this issue. What starts off as a single citizen’s fight soon grows, as the entire country rallies behind him.” Looks like another Jolly LLB 2 in the making!
The female lead is yet to be finalised, as the makers are looking for some of the top actresses to be cast opposite Shahid in the movie. Roshni will go on floors in January 2018.
