The mighty box office battle has begun, as Shah Rukh Khan–Mahira Khan‘s Raees and Hrithik Roshan-Yami Gautam’s Kaabil hit the screens today. Both the films are really exciting, so obviously the movie going audience will catch both the films. However, looks like Raees has taken a better opening as compared to Kaabil.
At the multiplexes, Raees opened to 80-90 percent occupancy in the morning shows, while Kaabil managed a decent 40 per cent. However, there is no need for Hrithik fans to worry as Kaabil is fighting back. Rajender Singh Jyala, VP-Programming and distribution, at INOX, revealed to us exclusively, “Raees had opened to almost full houses. Kaabil is shooting up now, it did not open to great numbers, but it is fighting back now. It opened with an occupancy of 40 per cent in the morning shows, but it has picked up since then. So Raees had upper hand according to the morning shows, but by the evening, Kaabil will catch up mostly.” (Also read: Hrithik Roshan’s heartwarming gesture for Shah Rukh Khan on the Raees-Kaabil clash day is INSPIRING)
According to current reports, the overall occupancy (including the multiplexes and single screens) of Raees is more than Kaabil. Shah Rukh Khan’s film is managing to maintain a 65 per cent occupancy across India, while Kaabil is closing in with an occupancy of 40 per cent.
For those of you who don’t know, Raees is about a bootlegger – Raees Aalam (Shah Rukh Khan) whose business in Gujarat is disrupted when a tough cop – ACP Majmudar (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is transferred to his city. The film also marks the debut of Pakistani actress Mahirah Khan, who plays Raees’ love interest Aasiya in the film. Those who have watched the movie insist that it is Nawaz-SRK’s face off that is the highlight of the film and his camaraderie with Zeeshan Ayubb, who plays Raees’ best friend and accomplice in the film. Kaabil, on the other hand, is a love story of Rohan (Hrithik) and Supriya (Yami Gautam). The film directed by Sanjay Gupta turns into a revenge drama when the villains Rohit and Ronit Roy play the baddies in Hrithik-Yami’s love story. The film has managed a thumbs up from critics and many have termed this as Hrithik’s best till date.
