Shah Rukh Khan is under the a lot of fire for whole lot of reasons. He is being targeted by a particularly pesky BJP leader for something he has said two years ago. His rail yatra that was held two days ago to promote Raees ran into controversy when a relative of a journalist who was travelling with King Khan died at the station when the train reached Surat station. And then Rakesh Roshan is accusing his team of blocking more screens than his movie, Kaabil. So year, Shah Rukh Khan has been under a lot of fire.
Recently there was another accusation against him that he is deliberately doing back to back Muslim characters in his recent movies. This supposed trend started with his cameo in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, where he played Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s ex-husband, Tahir Taliyar Khan. In Dear Zindagi, he was Dr Jehangir Khan and now in Raees, he is Raees Alam. Never mind that both his characters in FAN were Hindu, and even in his movies before that, like Dilwale and Happy New Year. In a blog he wrote for Indian Express, Shah Rukh Khan wrote about how journalism is becoming more sensationalist than informative. In the same blog he mentioned this, “You may write a piece from the point of view that I am doing three back-to-back Muslim characters. With due respect to my professionalism as an actor, I did not even know what my name was in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. I just went for two hours, did some shots and had fun with my friends, Karan, Ranbir (Kapoor) and Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan). I wrapped up around 2 am and partied till 6 am before flying back to Lisbon.”
He continued, “Don’t create a point of view. These are films which were postponed for two years. I would still like to believe that in this day and age, an artist is there to put across entertainment in the best way he or she thinks is possible. We don’t hold the audience responsible or at gun-point that they have to like every movie and point of view.”
Shah Rukh Khan’s latest movie, Raees, is already in theatres.
